Meet the Team Spotlight: Hugo Serrano
With more than two decades of experience, Hugo Serrano was looking for an opportunity to expand his role when he joined the Cutting Edge Supply sales team ten years ago.
“I was actually a customer of Cutting Edge first as I worked in purchasing for Don Chapin and knew a few of the sales guys,” explained Hugo. “I had always hoped to work in sales so when I heard about an opportunity from them, I felt it was my chance to seize the moment.”
Since then, Hugo has flourished with the company as an Outside Sales Rep in California, covering ground from Santa Maria to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. His approach with each visit is to find solutions for his customers.
“I never like to tell my customers no–it’s always let me see what I can do,” said Hugo. “I understand that they are under immense pressure and how critical downtime can be, so I feel it’s important to be proactive and get ahead of any problems. And when they need a part, I’ll always do everything I can to get it to them quickly and get them out of a bind.”
Prior to joining Cutting Edge, Hugo racked up extensive industry knowledge during his 20 years working in purchasing and shipping/receiving roles across agriculture, construction and industrial fields. He also spent a few years as a mechanic, repairing and servicing military trucks and equipment.
“My experience across those fields gave me an extensive knowledge of parts where I feel like I can bring more value to my customers in terms of recommendations,” said Hugo. “Within Cutting Edge and our Chrome Craft shops, we really offer quite an extensive range of parts. But on the off chance there’s something that falls outside of what we offer, I am also happy to help track it down and go the extra mile for my customers.”
Even 30 years deep into his career, Hugo still appreciates the impressive feats he gets to witness week-in and week-out.
“It’s always exciting to me to pull up to a site and see what we as a society have created and how the heavy equipment industry continues to evolve,” shared Hugo. “You really get to see it before your own eyes. We can move these mountains of dirt and create spectacular structures. It’s fascinating and phenomenal to watch.”
Off the clock, Hugo considers himself a movie aficionado and enjoys hitting the gym, riding his bike and spending time with his sons and daughters.
“Unfortunately, my daughters are now teenagers, so they don’t like to go out with dad as much as they used to, but my kids have always been my engines of inspiration,” he shared. “Everything I do is to try to build a solid future for them.”
